A police officer and a Jewish civilian were killed Monday during several hours of of violence in one of Montreal’s busiest Jewish neighbourhoods. The shooter is also dead.
Although police say the Jewish community was not the target, the shootings unfolded in an area familiar to thousands of Montreal Jews: Snowdon. It’s a place where Jewish Montrealers live shop, gather, attend events, pick up kosher food and welcome visitors.
In this special breaking-news edition of The CJN’s “North Star” podcast, host Ellin Bessner speaks with CJN Quebec correspondent Joel Ceausu, who is reporting from the scene. Ceausu explains what happened, what investigators have said so far, how community organizations responded, and why the tragedy has left so many Montrealers shaken.
